LG G Pad 8.3 official with full HD display

Just a few days ago we were teased with an official video about the unannounced LG G Pad 8.3. Now, we've got the official announcement to go along. LG has issued a press release about the 8.3 inch tablet which will debut at IFA in Germany next month. LG is touting the G Pad 8.3 as tablet small enough for one-handed operation but with premium features usually reserved for larger tablets, like an HD screen with 1920 x 1200 WUXGA resolution and 1.7GHz quad core processor.

The “G Pad” name fits in nicely with LG's other premium “G” offerings, including the LG G2 and LG G Pro smartphones.

US faces constant Labor Day-like traffic in coming decades

With Labor Day weekend upon our American readers, many of you have probably loaded up your vehicles for the last road trip of the summer. But with Labor Day weekend comes traffic. Lots and lots of traffic. GM says hybrid Corvette no laughing matter

When Mark Reuss was in LA recently, he sat down to have a few words with the scribes at the Los Angeles Times. When the issue of a hybrid Corvette came up, Reuss answered with "Don't laugh." The General Motors president is a complete fan of the possibility, calling it "attractive" and "really fun," believing it would improve GM expertise and that "people would love it.". Naturally, the president being supportive of an idea doesn't give indication that a hybrid Corvette is on the way.

Can the government mechanically force you to wear your seatbelt?

The National Highway Traffic Administration is considering the use of ignition interlocks in vehicles that would require the seatbelts of occupied seats to be fastened in order to drive the car, Automotive News reports, four decades after Congress moved to prevent manufacturers from installing them in cars sold in the US market. Following a transportation bill passed last year that lift some of the restrictions on seatbelt interlocks, automakers such as BMW are considering the benefits of using them in future cars. Now, before you go crying about your lost freedom, keep reading.

ZF announces new GenShock energy-recovery suspension

It's only a matter of time before cars' suspensions become a part of the electric power-regeneration process (similar to regenerative braking), and that time is coming very soon courtesy of ZF Friedrichshafen AG and Levant Power Corp. Levant Power has been developing what it calls GenShock-technology, the first active suspension system with the ability to recapture energy, and ZF has entered a partnership with the Massachusetts-based company to build it. The active dampers employ a new type of valve technology to regulate the flow of oil in the shocks, which is the basis for the active and regenerative characteristics.

Cheaper Galaxy Note III with LCD and 8MP cam is in the works

The latest rumors coming from Korea suggest Samsung is trying to lower the cost of the Galaxy Note III phablet for the emerging markets by replacing some internals with cheaper components. To achieve a price cut, the Galaxy Note III will lose the Super AMOLED screen in favor of a regular LCD unit plus the camera will be downgraded to an 8MP one. Thanks to those sacrifices, Samsung will be able to launch the Galaxy Note III phablet at a cheaper price point in the emerging markets.

New Odyssey ads feature Honda Vac, star power

Honda has released a string of new ads highlighting its refreshed, 2014 Odyssey minivan. While the Japanese brand hasn't started bragging about attaining the first Top Safety Pick+ for minivans, it's all too happy to brag about another first - the world's first van with a built-in vacuum cleaner. In three spots, anthropomorphic children's rubbish discusses the merits of the new minivan, only to be sucked up by the built-in vacuum, which is only available in the top-end Touring Elite model. There's also quite a bit of star power floating around for those that watch a lot of TV.

An unknown HTC smartphone has leaked today via two photos. The device looks nothing we've seen so far from HTC and is very slim. As the rumor has it the phone will pack a 4" or so WVGA display, 1GB RAM, 8GB storage, a 5MP rear and a 1.3MP front camera. There is no word on the processor, connectivity or Android version.

The final piece if info in this rumor is the smartphone's price - $210. Since the leak source is Chinese, we guess China will be the first market to get it and the phone will probably support dual-SIM.

The Nissan Armada is aptly named, because in relative automotive terms, it's not just the size of a ship – it's the size of a whole fleet. And that, according to reports, isn't about to change. While many of the larger SUVs on the market are gradually being phased out or replaced by smaller crossovers, Nissan apparently plans on keeping the Armada right where it is.

According to a report from The Huffington Post, the chairwoman of the National Transportation Safety Board, Deborah Hersman, has argued that black boxes should be mandatory in self-driving cars, like those that Google and Nissan have been working on. "Data capture is going to help you understand if there is a vehicle problem, or if it's a human factors issue," Hersman told the Post.

Just the other day we reported that a video had surfaced where Apple's rumored iPhone 5C was put through a scratch test to see how durable its plastic body really was. This video might be of more interest to would-be iPhone 5S owners especially since early iPhone 5 units have been reported to be pretty susceptible to scratches, which hopefully Apple will be able to address in the upcoming iPhone 5S through better quality materials or a better manufacturing process.

Ever wondered where the expression "soft light" comes from. Have you ever seen "hard light" before. I guess it has something more to do with "harsh" than "hard", of course. Well, soft lighting often involves nice and warm hues, and would always be nice to have if you want the right ambience to kick off a romantic dinner or tete-a-tete. Well, soft lighting also tends to come the form of lamps, but you ought to be extremely careful with these since they can be rather fragile, depending on the lamp's manufacturer, of course.

This takes the crown from the Huawei Ascend P6, but isn't likely to keep it for long, as the often talked about Umeox X5 is just around the corner (and will probably be unveiled in early September). Still, a record is a record even if it only holds for a few weeks. The Vivo X3′s blue version is 5.75 mm thin. That compares favorably to the Ascend P6′s 6.18 thickness. For some reason, the white Vivo X3 is 5.95 mm thin, though.

Dale Earnhardt's legendary No. 3 headed back to NASCAR?

Dale Earnhardt's legendary No. 3 headed back to NASCAR?

They don't typically retire numbers in motor racing the way they do in other sports. Certainly not in series like F1 where numbers are assigned based on how the team did in the previous season. But even in American oval-track racing, it's a bit of a rarity. CART retired Greg Moore's number 99 after he died in a crash in 1999, but the number resurfaced after the Indy merger. NASCAR has only ever officially retired a number once – the number 61 that Richie Evans used until he died in 1985 – and that was in the Whelen Modified Tour, not in one of the stock car championships.
