Intel CEO says Windows 8 is not fully ready

Intel CEO says Windows 8 is not fully ready

Uh oh. This is certainly news Microsoft does not want to hear about one month before the official release of its Windows 8 operating system. At a company meeting, Paul Otellini reportedly told employees that Windows 8 is released before it is “fully ready”, according to an article published by Bloomberg. However, getting Windows 8 ready now is the right decision and Microsoft can release updates afterwards to fix bugs.
It is not unusual that software ships with some bugs as many companies typically resort to an 80x20 strategy in which 80 percent is good enough and the remaining 20 percent too expensive to achieve.

RadioShack's epic PR win (iPhone giveaway!)

RadioShack's epic PR win (iPhone giveaway!)

. Public relations is a tough gig, and tech PR may be among the toughest due to the sheer volume of companies constantly fighting for coverage. Tech writers can get a hundred or more emails each day from PR companies hoping to get their clients publicity, so it is no easy task to concoct a pitch that draws interest. There isn't a magic recipe for standing out in the crowd of PR flacks vying for coverage, but the best way to separate yourself from the pack and avoid wasting writers' time and your clients' money is often to simply pay attention.

Watch David Coulthard pilot the SLS AMG GT around the 'Ring

The Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT, replacement for the already-bonkers SLS AMG, adds 20 horsepower, stiffer springs and dampers, retunes the adaptive suspension and throws 20-inch wheels at the back end. It's a revamp that allowed the SLS AMG GT to snip five seconds off of a lap around the Nürburgring compared to the "snail-like" SLS AMG. In this video, Mercedes DTM team driver David Coulthard takes the new gullwing out on that very same ring, talks us through its increased performance and then gives us a walkaround to show off the cosmetic changes. Not surprisingly, he's a fan.

Gigabyte shirt carries data around

Gigabyte shirt carries data around

You would have heard of the expression "wearing your heart on your sleeve", but in the future, someone might actually ask you to wear your data. That puzzled look would soon make way for an acknowledgement in the future, as NASA scientists has discovered a method to transform fabrics into voluminous storage arrays. To put it in plain English, we are looking at a simple shirt being turned into a potential storage medium. As for the amount of memory that can be stored, it really depends, although terabytes would not be out of the question.

ZTE marketing guy goes crazy with unknown WP8 handset and Gaussian blur

Who needs a marketing department when you have a personal Sina Weibo account. So reasoned ZTE's marketing strategy manager, Dennis Lui, as he posted the above photo of three ZTE Windows Phones to the internet. The right-hand device is just a regular ZTE Tania and, although it looks like it's running Windows Phone 8, the screen is actually a dead ringer for a certain "WP8 simulator" app available for WP7 phones.

Another Photokina star is Samsung's Galaxy Camera, which launched to much fanfare several weeks ago at IFA, but dominates the company's photo-themed booth at the biennial photography show in Cologne, Germany. There's not much more to report on the hardware side, apart from confirmation that certain versions of the Android snapper will pack LTE, but there are indeed some very shiny new finishes to gawk at. First up is a bright orange flavor - if you feared that the Galaxy point-and-shoot's rather large footprint wouldn't attract enough attention on its own in the field, you shouldn't have any such concerns with an orange model.

World of Warcraft may secretly include your account name and server IP in screenshots

Repeating patterns embedded in screenshots taken with WoW's game client application can be decrypted to identify you, a report on Slashdot suggests. Posters on the OwnedCore forum claim that the watermark can be decoded to reveal user IDs, the time the screenshot was captured and the IP address of the server. "A few days ago I noticed some weird artifacts covering the screenshots I captured using the WoW game client application," says Slashdot poster kgkoutzis. "I sharpened the images and found a repeating pattern secretly embedded inside.

New quad-core Pantech Vega R3 with Android ICS comes to take on Samsung Galaxy Note II

New quad-core Pantech Vega R3 with Android ICS comes to take on Samsung Galaxy Note II

Only two months after launching the 5 inch Vega S5, Pantech has now introduced another extra-large smartphone: the Vega R3. The new Pantech Vega R3 is slightly larger than the S5, coming with a 5.3 inch display (HD, of course). It runs Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich - almost certainly upgradeable to Jelly Bean - and features a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro APQ8064 processor, LTE, NFC, Bluetooth 4.0, 13MP rear camera, 2MP front-facing camera, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of internal memory, and a 2,600 mAh battery.
With such specs, the Vega R3 can be certainly seen as a direct competitor to Samsung's new Galaxy Note II.

Cygnett Glam Red Case for iPad Review

Cygnett Glam Red Case for iPad Review

Lately, I've been going with a minimal approach to casing my iPad, using only a sleeve.  However, I'm always looking for my next favorite case, and I was very interested when Cygnett offered The Gadgeteer their Glam Red case for iPad 2 and the new iPad.  It was red, after all.  How could I refuse.  Let's give it a closer look.

The Glam Red case is made of patent leather, although I believe it is a faux leather.  The cover is shiny and very smooth.  The stitching is even and straight.

European regulators set to file antitrust suit against Microsoft

European regulators set to file antitrust suit against Microsoft

. Regulators in Europe are reportedly set to file an antitrust lawsuit against Microsoft (MSFT) related to the company's failure to comply with a three-year-old ruling ordering it to offer users a choice of Web browsers on Windows PCs. An investigation into Microsoft's breach of the order was opened this past July, and the company had previously acknowledged the violation last year. “The next step is to open a formal proceeding into the company's breach of an agreement. We are working on this,” EU Competition Commissioner Joaquin Almunia said on Thursday.

Reprising a Windows Phone 7 giveaway from back in 2010, Microsoft boss Steve Ballmer announced at the company's annual event that all 90,000 or so full-time employees are getting a taste of its latest hardware. That's one Surface for Windows RT tablet and Windows Phone 8 phone (we're told that last time around these came with two year contracts) in late December, along with a new touch compatible office computer running Windows 8, presumably arriving sooner.
