Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn Beta On PS3

If you happen to own the Sony PS3, then get this – fans of the Final Fantasy series will be pleased to hear that the beta of the Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn is now available, and Square Enix, in a way, has said that they will not be sparing any expense in delivering the most memorable elements of the series into A Realm Reborn. There will definitely be subsequent patches of the title, where the Square Enix team intends to throw in more great stuff into the mix, and it would not be too hard to do considering how Final Fantasy has a quarter of a century's worth of history to draw from.

Android app spotlight : Friendcaster app for Facebook

I'm not a big Facebook user, but these days it's a bit of a necessary evil. In my opinion, the official Facebook app for Android is nothing short of atrocious. It appears just to be a different interface to the mobile web site. Friendcaster is an alternative client that makes using Facebook just that little bit more bearable, especially on a tablet like the Nexus 7.
Down the left side is an access bar that allows you to easily go to groups, notifications, messages, or pages you belong to, amongst other things, and you can change the order depending on your needs. If you need the “real estate”, you can also hide this bar.

Qualcomm RF360 For Unified 4G LTE Smartphone Designs

Qualcomm has announced RF360, a solution that solves one of the biggest hurdles for LTE handset makers and customers: the need to build multiple versions of the same handset to address one of the many (40+) LTE bands worldwide. Interestingly, Qualcomm did a good job of keeping this a secret, since the company hinted before that a solution to it may take a long time to appear. For instance, the iPhone 5 comes in 3 versions (Model A1428, A1429 GSM, A1429 CDMA) and the Galaxy S3 has multiple versions as well (including a Qualcomm-powered one).

Anti-DUI campaign puts the fear of god into drunk drivers in India

The Hindu religion is said to have something like 330 million deities – that's nearly as many gods as there are residents in the United States. Another startling number is the amount of road fatalities in India attributed to drunk driving: 70 percent. Combining the former with the latter, a restaurant called Zara in Chennai worked with an ad agency to heighten awareness of leaving the bar after several too many and promote a designated driver service.

Compact Bag for Your DSLR Camera

Compact Bag for Your DSLR Camera

The Crumpler Quick Escape 300 is the third camera bag I own for my DSLR camera, and this is the most compact one among the others. I take my camera backpack or my big shoulder bag when I have to bring more equipment. But more often, I need a compact bag that's simple enough to be truly portable and fits the camera with a standard 18-55 zoom lens. Everytime I go to do simple shots, I bring my DLSR without a camera case. My backpack and shoulder bag are just too heavy and complicated for a simple photo session.

Experimental mid-engine XP-819 Corvette heads to Amelia Island

Experimental mid-engine XP-819 Corvette heads to Amelia Island

It seems to be commonplace that when a new Corvette is in development, rumors swirl about a possible mid-engine layout. As is the case of Chevy's most recent C7 Corvette, these rumors never pan out. In any case, the idea for a 'Vette with an engine mounted behind the driver can probably all be traced back to a single car, the 1964 XP-819 prototype. Built as an "engineering exercise" back in 1964, the prototype was designed with a rear-mounted engine.

Think you've waited long enough for this. If so, then you'll want to savor the photos we've so far been given of the 2014 Chevrolet SS, the first rear-wheel-drive performance sedan from The Bowtie in 17 years. We all know its our version of the brand new VF-model Holden Commodore, but what's under the hood that earns the appellation "performance?" A 6.2-liter LS3 V8 engine producing 415 horsepower and 415 pound-feet of torque. That's 35 hp and lb-ft less than the same engine is expected to produce in the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette.

Apple Plans To Fix iOS 6.1 Passcode Lock Bypass Exploit

A flaw in the passcode lock in iOS 6.1 was revealed yesterday that allowed anyone to bypass it with very little effort in order to access the owner's phone application to view voicemails, contact information and place calls. As a result, Apple has announced it is currently working on a fix that would help make its passcode lock feature function the way it should. In a statement to CNET, Apple says the company ” takes user security very seriously.” They also say they “are aware of this issue, and will deliver a fix in a future software update.”.

The 2013 Range Rover is on waiting lists so long that Land Rover isn't even importing the base model for lack of sufficient uptake in view of limited resources. When that backlog is all cleared up, there's a 15-page booklet worth of changes coming for the 2014 model year, the biggest of which is the disappearance of the naturally aspirated 5.0-liter V8 engine. It will be replaced in the base Range Rover and the HSE with a supercharged 3.0-liter V6.

Brazilian iPhone Goes Ahead With Release

Brazilian iPhone Goes Ahead With Release

We reported earlier this month that Apple has lost its iPhone trademark in Brazil to a company known as Gradiente (aka IGB Eletrônica), as the latter had held the iPhone trademark in that part of the world all the way back in the year 2000, which is a good seven years before Apple first released their revolutionary iPhone. It does seem as though Apple executives are going to be hopping mad with word that Gradiente will be selling an Android-powered smartphone that they have called the iPhone, or iPhone Neo One in full.

Judge rules against builder of Batmobile replicas

Judge rules against builder of Batmobile replicas

A federal judge has ruled that Batmobile replicas built by Mark Towle, of Gotham Garage, do, in fact, infringe on copyrights and trademarks held by Warner Bros. Towle's attorney, Larry Zerner, argued that US copyright law doesn't allow "useful articles" to be copyrighted. Zerner, in court documents, insisted that Warner Brothers' lawsuit claimed the entire Batmobile was protected including doors, seats and tires. The judge agreed, but ruled the law does allow copyrighting of unique design elements of useful articles.

"The implications of a ruling upholding this standard are easy to imagine," Zerner wrote.

Microsoft Surface Pro is “Sold Out”

On its launch day, the Microsoft Surface Pro has been announced as “sold-out”. There were the occasional lines in front of Microsoft stores, and it wasn't hard to find excited customers on the web. However, it is just impossible to tell at this point if the fact that it is sold-out is the result of high-demand, or short-supply. Overall, I really see why a certain crowd of ultra-mobile users would want one: it is a real PC, yet has a smaller footprint than 11″ laptops and weigh only 2 lbs, which is about 0.5 lbs more than an iPad.

Oplink Mobile Interactive Security System review

When I purchased my current house, it came with a professionally-installed security system.  I never used it because there is a monthly fee to monitor the premises, which I'm not willing to pay.  Recently I heard about Oplink Security and their Triple Shield Home system which can be self installed and has an option that doesn't require a monthly fee.  Even better is the fact that it uses wireless sensors, which for a home improvement klutz like me, seemed perfect.  Well, nothing is prefect, so I'll take you through my experiences so far.

It has been speculated that perhaps the Samsung Galaxy S4 for AT&T could be going by the model number SGH-i337, and assuming that is true, it looks like we might be looking at some camera image samples from the Galaxy S4 (pictured above). The photos were uploaded onto Google+ by a certain Hyunsuk Park, but at this time of posting the photos have since been taken down, leading us to speculate that perhaps there might be some merit to these photos after all.

For those of you who have been looking forward to the planned launch event tomorrow in New York City by Microsoft, we regret to inform you that the software giant has canceled the event because of an incoming snowstorm which has been forecast to deliver up to a foot of snow in the Big Apple. Originally, the event was scheduled to be held at the Best Buy retail store in the Union Square section of Manhattan, and it will kick off with an invite only reception prior to the first Surface Pro tablet going on sale at that store at the stroke of midnight.

Samsung Galaxy S4 To Be Introduced In Russia?

Hmmm, the Samsung Galaxy S3 was first announced officially to the masses in London last year at the Galaxy S3 Unpacked event in 2012, and for next year's edition, there is a possibility that Samsung Unpacked will kick off in chilly Moscow, Russia. It is said that there is a possibility of the Samsung Unpacked event happening alongside Sochi 2014, which is where the Olympic Winter Games will be held in Russia. It was not too long ago that Samsung announced a sponsoring partnership with Sochi 2014, and since 2014 is a long way off (relatively speaking, of course, when it comes to the world of tech), but anything remains possible.

Many believe that the PlayStation 4 will be released this year, although when exactly remains to be seen, but at the same time it is speculated that the announcement at the very least will take place on the 20th of February. The next question on everyone's minds (we're assuming!) is that how much will the console cost once it goes on sale. Now the PlayStation 3 was definitely not cheap when it was released, although considering it was a huge step up from the PlayStation 2, we guess we can understand why it was priced so expensive at its early stages.
