Bentley to unveil plug-in hybrid SUV concept in Geneva

The legendary Ettore Bugatti once famously (and derisively) referred to Bentley cars as "the world's fastest lorries" – the British term for heavy trucks. Fast-forward a few decades and Ettore's proclamation is edging toward the truth, as the British brand is rumored to be launching its first-ever SUV – at least in conceptual form – at next week's Geneva Motor Show. The model – which would expand the Bentley range from two models to three – is earmarked by Bentley/Bugatti Chief Exec Wolfgang Dürheimer (pictured at left with his predecessor, Dr.

Skype beta for Windows Phone doesn't work in the background

The Skype beta for Windows Phone was launched a couple of days ago and it looks like there are some major flaws spotted for the app. According to reports online - the app doesn't work in the background. Despite Windows Phone 7.5′s limited ability to support multitasking, it looks like it won't be working for Skype. Apparently this is due to a limitation of Windows Phone Mango and Tango, and Skype can't do anything to fix the problem yet - so don't expect the feature to be available when the gold build is released in April.

MWC 2012: Your phone will become your computer. Ubuntu for Android video demo

The slogan "Your phone is your computer" has been around for years. But it always meant very little and was just a marketing tool for smartphone vendors to promote their wares. Yes, with the introduction of Apple iPhone, your phone did become a true personal mobile computing device. But a computer? To rival your desktop PC or at least laptop/netbook? Not even close.

Yet.

We are getting there slowly but surely. And in a few years your phone may indeed become an adequate replacement for your PC or Mac.

The first commercial device trying to transform your phone into a PC - was Motorola Atrix with a Lapdock.

Big decisions loom for next Subaru WRX this week

Big decisions loom for next Subaru WRX this week

Subaru is currently plotting the future of the next-generation WRX STI. Company delegates from various world markets are currently headed to Japan to decide whether the rally bruiser will continue to be a hardcore racer straight from the factory or if it will head in a new, somewhat posher direction. According to GoAuto.com (and previous reports), the new STI will be significantly different from the base Impreza and WRX, and that difference may translate into a more upscale performance model. Think something along the lines of a BMW M or a Mercedes-Benz AMG machine.

Acer CloudMobile hands-on

. You would think that, given the impressive specs of its new CloudMobile smartphone, Acer would want to place this thing front and center at Mobile World Congress. Think again. For some reason, the company decided to hide its new flagship model within the Google booth. Location aside, the handset's specs are nothing to scoff at. A 1.5GHz dual-core Snapdragon chip powers this monster, which sports a 4.3-inch 1,280 x 800-pixel HD screen with a truly incredible range viewing angles, and a really well-engineered tooled metal exterior.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 Preview

Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 Preview

[MWC 2012] Samsung has announced a refresh with the Galaxy Tab 2 line, that features 10.1" and 7" model that come with various levels of internal storage (8GB, 16GB, 32GB). Surprisingly, the new Galaxy Tab 2 aren't so different from their predecessors. Both have gotten a facelift and feature a newer design, and the two things that I really cared about were Android 4.0 and the microSD slot. In my opinion, Android 4.0 aka Ice Cream Sandwich does make a noticeable difference in terms of user interface responsiveness, and the microSD slot allows users to upgrade the storage for very cheap.

The model in question – expected to be joined by a convertible Evora as well – is tipped to be based on the top-spec, 444-horsepower Evora GTE, but with the black and gold livery featured on the company's F1 cars.

You can tell the iPad 3 launch is drawing closer because the Apple rumor mill is running so hard it's practically smoking at this point. Today brings yet more talk of the actual launch event itself, as opposed to gossip about the device in question. The iPad 3 is expected to be announced in early March, but, of course, it takes a bit of time to ship a massive number of iPads from Asia, where they're manufactured, to the United States. Today brings news that Apple has already started that process.
A posting over on Apple.pro claims to show official documentation that states several shipments from Foxconn are set to arrive at three U.S.

Worried about Motorola getting Android dibs? Andy Rubin is here to appease you

Andy Rubin has taken the stage at MWC, and has spoken about Google's acquisition of Motorola, and its plans. Google swears that its open nature will stay the same, and the Motorola acquisition is simply meant to expand its patent portfolio. Recent actions have raised concerns in the community, though. Mainly the fact that Google is putting Sanjay Jha aside and making Google's very own Dennis Woodside CEO of Motorola Mobility.
According to Android's Andy Rubin, Google's open philosophy will stay un-touched.

HTC unveils One S, arrives with dual-core power, engineered metal finish

HTC's new phone appears to be its middle-weight offering, but it's still with a 4.3 inch Super AMOLED display and a new dual-core 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S3 S4 (MSM8260A) inside set to do the heavy-lifting. Previously known to leak fans as the Ville, HTC's brought Ice Cream Sandwich to the fold, alongside the very latest version of its Sense UI - 4.0 to match that Android version number. The highlight here appears to be that uniformly thin alloy unibody; in science terms, it's a plasma-heated micro arc oxidation process, giving HTC's typical aluminum frame a smooth ceramic finish and apparently toughening it up in the process.

Intel's Medfield-based Android smartphones have been buzzed about for sometime now, but until this past CES, we hadn't actually seen one of these unicorns en vivo. No longer, as the chip manufacturer outed a trio of those very handsets today at its MWC event. Of particular note is the Xolo by Lava, a 4.03-inch, single-core unit running a mostly stock build of Gingerbread and destined for the Indian market. We spent time getting to know the device, so follow on past the break as we parse through its finer qualities.

TI reveals more OMAP 5 details at MWC 2012

Well, if our hands-on at CES didn't sell you on TI's next-gen OMAP 5 platform, perhaps some more specs revealed recently at MWC 2012 will. We've known about its dual Cortex-A15 and Cortex-M4 architecture since this time last year, but we didn't know that those M4 cores are there to handle real-time processing of multimedia - like video encoding and decoding - which TI claims can provide up to ten percent power savings.
