Rumored Low Cost iPhone Back Cover Spotted

Rumored Low Cost iPhone Back Cover Spotted

We have heard our fair share of low cost iPhones in the past, including one that touts it will ship in limited numbers at launch. Well, here is something that might cause you to sit up and take notice, especially when you consider how it is a whole lot more physical than just mere words. What you see above are alleged photos of a back cover of an upcoming low-cost iPhone, where it depicts a bright-green back shell that some might even mistake for a wayward ninja turtle. This also falls in line with older rumors which concern the more affordable iPhone model, where it is said to arrive in multiple colors.

Brahmin Theo iPad/Tablet Bag review

Brahmin Theo iPad/Tablet Bag review

Right after I wrote my recent news item about the Theo iPad Bag from Brahmin, I set about finding one for myself.  I promptly ordered the bag in the crocodile-embossed leather in Pecan.  The bag arrived recently.  Is it everything I hoped.
All images can be clicked for an enlarged view.

The Theo bag is made of genuine leather that's been embossed with a crocodile pattern.  They call their embossed leathers “Melbourne”; they are embossed to look like exotic skins, but they are made from cowhide.

Mark Webber has announced he's leaving the Red Bull F1 team to join Porsche in that company's quest for victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The Australian has signed a contract that will keep him with his new employer for the next "several years." Porsche says Webber will helm the company's new LMP1 sports prototype at Le Mans and will also compete in the World Endurance Championship. This won't be his first go at the legendary 24-hour race – Webber has competed at Le Mans twice before. Now he'll be joined by Porsche works drivers Timo Bernhard and Romain Dumas.
Meanwhile, Kimi Raikkonen is likely to fill Webber's seat at Red Bull.

XCAR loves the Morgan Aero Coupe and so do we

If you listen to the accountants of the world, the Morgan Aero Coupe simply shouldn't exist. With a production run of around 100 units, this car is the very definition of boutique. It reeks of nonsensical transportation. It isn't the fastest. It doesn't handle the best. It isn't even the most luxurious. As such, there simply isn't a business case for the car on paper. Count us among the thankful that human desire has nothing to do logic. XCAR recently took the time to get personal with the Aero Coupe by exercising the machine through downtown London at night.

Samsung Galaxy S 4 Google Play edition hands-on (video)

Samsung Galaxy S 4 Google Play edition hands-on (video)

In terms of hardware, you're looking at a standard-issue Galaxy S 4 - complete with the same uninspired design and cheap materials as its TouchWiz-equipped siblings. Obviously, there's no carrier branding to be found anywhere. Samsung's logo appears below the earpiece in front and underneath the flash in the back - that's it. The radios are fully unlocked and support EDGE, HSPA+ and LTE (bands 4 and 17 for T-Mobile and AT&T in the US). Of course, what matter most here is the software - a completely stock build of Android 4.2.2 (Jellybean) that's devoid of any carrier or manufacturer apps and services.

On the top is a singe button that wakes the display and cycles through the various screens of stats, including the number of steps taken, calories burned and total distance traveled. The display is one of the more helpful we've seen on such a device. It's hardly a high-res LCD, but the monochrome panel is dense enough to spit out usable data with a quick glance. It also happens to be touch sensitive. A firmware update coming tomorrow will allow you to swipe through up to 14 days of activity, but the prototype we handled only had a one day history.

Samsung, Apple and Sony (surprisingly?) are now the top three smartphone vendors in Western Europe

Samsung, Apple and Sony (surprisingly?) are now the top three smartphone vendors in Western Europe

Sony's recent mobile efforts haven't been in vain. According to IDC, the Japanese company has shipped 3.2 million Android smartphones in Western Europe in the first quarter of 2013. This allowed the Japanese company to take the third place in overall smartphone shipments in the region - behind the two incontestable leaders: Samsung (14.3 million units shipped), and Apple (6.2 million units). The waterproof Xperia Z (which has been a bestseller in Japan since day one) has probably helped Sony a lot.

LG followed Sony, with 2.4 million smartphones shipped.

Sony Mobile may have Jelly Bean on brain, after updating both the Sony Xperia Z (international version), and the AT&T Sony Xperia Ion to the buttery firmware. Of course as we all know, not all Jelly Beans are created equal and the Xperia Z is the only device to receive the most up-to-date version of Google's latest firmware, leaving the Ion with last year's beans. Multiple Xperia Z's are now receiving Android 4.2.2, with the Xperia Blog confirming the update hitting multiple Z's in Europe. Exactly how long it will take for the update to hit the T-Mobile Xperia Z when it finally arrives in the coming weeks is anyone's guess.

Where else would you go to literally make the highest Skype video call on earth. Why, as high up as possible on the highest point on earth, and Mount Everest would be as good a choice as any, of course. In fact, that was where U.K. resident Daniel Hughes decided to go to in his bid to make the highest ever Skype video call to date. This particular mission was incubated in 2010 when Hughes, a commercial airline pilot, made up his mind to raise money in order to assist the well-known U.K. children's charity Comic Relief.

Here's some extremely good news for you if you happen to own a Sony Xperia Z. The update to Android 4.2.2 seems to finally be on its way to your device. This comes after months and months of waiting, and several delays. Sony initially promised to have the update ready “shortly after launch”, but that never happened. Interestingly, the Xperia ZL, which basically has identical innards to the Z, has started receiving its update to this version of Android first, a few days ago.

Thankfully though, there were only a few days of waiting left for Xperia Z owners after that point.

Tokyo court rules Samsung infringed on Apple's 'rubber-banding' patent

In a ruling opposite of that coming from the US Patent and Trademark Office in April, a Tokyo court has decided in favor of Apple after claims that Samsung infringed on their “rubber-banding” patent. While a US judge ruled that the patent, which covers the bounce-back effect in iOS that is triggered when a user scrolls to the end of a document, was invalid, Samsung was found guilty of infringement in the Japanese court. The suit is one of several between Apple and Samsung spanning 10 countries, many targeting the same patents in different regions with varying degrees of success.

New Samsung Galaxy S4 with LTE Advanced confirmed, could be launched this month (in Korea)

Samsung's Mobile Chief J.K. Shin has confirmed that a Galaxy S4 version with support for LTE Advanced would be released in South Korea soon, possibly before the end of June. The S4 with LTE-A will be slightly more expensive than the regular LTE edition, using a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 chip - probably because Samsung doesn't have (yet) an Exynos chip to support LTE Advanced.
According to Reuters, "Samsung was in talks with several overseas carriers to take the phone." Unfortunately, the carriers have not been named.

In testing the durability of its upcoming fullsize Transit vans, Ford has begun using autonomous robotic technology to pilot vehicles through the punishing courses of its Michigan Proving Grounds test facility. The autonomous tech allows Ford to run more durability tests in a single day than it could with human drivers, as well as create even more challenging tests that wouldn't be safe to run with a human behind the wheel. The technology being used was developed by Utah-based Autonomous Solutions, and isn't quite like the totally autonomous vehicles being developed by companies like Google and Audi for use out in the real world.
