Expensive Nexus 5 cases hit the Play Store, are you buying?

Also hitting the Google Play Store this afternoon were a variety of OEM cases for the Nexus 5. Apple is often mocked around Android parts for offering expensive accessories, and it looks like Google is following in their footsteps. Jumping onto the Google Play Store you'll find bumper and flip cases for the Nexus 5, in a good range of colors. More of a full case than a “bumper”, LG's bumper cases retails for $35 and comes in black, gray, red and yellow color options. The material seems to be TPU in nature, but Google claims they're hard on the outside, soft and rubbery on the inside.

Low-Cost 3D-Printed Prosthetic Built By Father For His Disabled Son

Low-Cost 3D-Printed Prosthetic Built By Father For His Disabled Son

We've seen stories of people creating their own prosthetics in the past, but Leon McCarthy's story is one that certainly is one of the most interesting as he and his father have been working together to not only build him a low-cost 3D-printed prosthetic, but to also modify the original design in order to create a new one when he outgrows the previous hand. . Leon McCarthy was born without fingers on one of his hands as a result of limited blood flow while he was in the womb, causing his hand to never fully develop.

The availability of the Galaxy S3 Mini in the U.S. has been slow, but it looks like may not be waiting long for Verizon's to be released as @evleaks has just outed what looks to be a press render for the device.
When the Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini hits Verizon Wireless, it looks like there will be an option to pick it up in blue, although at this time it's unknown if that will be the only color option made available.

Lenovo turned heads recently when they announced their Yoga Tablet, which are two Android 4.2.2 tablets that come with large capacity batteries that hope to extend their use past what we would consider would be an acceptable amount of battery life. It looks like that wasn't the only big bit of news Lenovo had up its sleeve as apparently they hired Ashton Kutcher to be the company's latest product engineer as well as their celebrity pitchman.

More folks will soon be able to get in on the CyanogenMod fun on some of the latest smartphones available. The ROM developers have made nightlies available for both the Motorola Moto X (certain unlocked versions, anyway) and Sony's Xperia Z Ultra. This means you can get flashable builds on an almost-daily basis, giving you an early crack at the CyanogenMod experience before it goes full stable for your device. That said, you should know that flashing nightlies comes with a risk.

For starters, nothing is promised to be stable.

Lutz says Washington killed Pontiac, next G6 was to be ATS derivative

How many people think Buick or GMC should have gotten the axe instead of Pontiac. You can't see it, but I'm raising my hand. Autoweek reports that former Vice Chairman of GM, Bob Lutz, has indicated that things didn't have to end up the way they did. "The Feds said, 'Yeah, how much money have you made on Pontiac in the last 10 years?' and the answer was, 'Nothing.'"

Watch Lutz speak above for yourself, and take note that he makes his statement about "The Feds" at around 2:14:39.

Halloween is just a couple days away, but if you haven't carved your pumpkin yet (and you're in need of some cool ideas), Chevrolet has got you covered. Head on over to the Chevy Facebook page for an assortment of stencils to create cool, Chevy-themed jack-o'-lanterns, but bring your X-Acto knife because some of them look very challenging. While there are plenty of designs, our favorites are the spooky Chevy Volt (shown above) with its bat wings and Dracula teeth and the Chevy Spark caught in the spider web. Of course, judging by the "likes" on that page, fans love the Stingray logo and Camaro face designs the best.

Eau Good water bottle makes tap water taste like bottled water

Eau Good water bottle makes tap water taste like bottled water

I like the taste of bottled water much more than the taste of the water that comes out of a tap. But buying bottled water is both expensive and wasteful due to all the plastic. Enter the Eau Good water bottle designed by European design firm Black and Blum. The Eau Good is a BPA free plastic bottle that has been specially designed to hold a Binchotan filter. What is Binchotan you ask? It's a natural charcoal filter made from oak that balances the pH, reduces chlorine and mineralizes drinking water to make it healthier and better tasting. Each filter lasts up to 6 months before it needs to be replaced.

BlackBerry Removes Queue For BBM For iOS And Android

BBM for iOS and Android is without doubt a success, given that the app saw 10 million downloads in a 24-hour period. However like we mentioned last time, the 10 million downloads might not necessarily mean 10 million active iOS and Android BBM users since there was a queue that one would have to place themselves in to start using the service. Presumably this was put into place to help take the load off BlackBerry's servers from the influx of iOS and Android users.

Sony SmartWatch 2 review: a fair effort that still hasn't cracked it

Hardware. Watches have a tough job from the outset. Not only must they fulfill their functional purpose, but they also have an intrinsic link to style, image and fashion. A good watch must stand up to both tasks, ahem, at hand (sorry). What looks good to you, however, will largely be a matter of taste, and there are plenty of pictures here and above to let you decide if it's to your liking. What we will say, however, is that it might not fit all occasions (it's definitely not a dress watch for example), but it won't look too out of place with most smart-casual outfits.

Large Chinese cities aren't known for having clean air. Just this week, the Chinese city of Harbin filled with record levels of smog after starting the city's coal-fired heating system, according to CNN. But Li Shufu, the chairman of Geely, Volvo's parent company, says the automaker's astute attention to cabin comfort in areas such as air filtration is a selling point for the Swedish automaker in China, Forbes reports. Shufu says when he is inside a Volvo, he feels like he's in Northern Europe, but when the door is opened, he feels like he's in Beijing.

[Update: It's out!] BBM for Android finally rolling out later today; be sure to "wait in line"

After Blackberry failed to launch BBM for Android (thanks to server overload from an unofficial release of the app), the company has finally announced the resuming of rollouts for the messaging service. They say we should be seeing the app in the Google Play Store within the next few hours, but being able to use it won't be as simple as downloading it and making an account. In order to ensure they can properly handle the load of an expected 6 million users, Blackberry is implementing a queue system — you simply “get in line,” and once you make it to the front you're good to go.
