CyanogenMod started off as a custom ROM for Android smartphones where smartphone users could install the ROM if they did not like the user interface offered to them by their smartphone OEM. CyanogenMod has since grown and last we heard, it would come preinstalled on devices like the Oppo N1, but now according to the rumors, it seems that coming preinstalled on a device is not enough and that Cyanogen Inc. is looking to build their own smartphone, controlling both the hardware and software ends.
