Samsung, Apple and Sony (surprisingly?) are now the top three smartphone vendors in Western Europe

Sony's recent mobile efforts haven't been in vain. According to IDC, the Japanese company has shipped 3.2 million Android smartphones in Western Europe in the first quarter of 2013. This allowed the Japanese company to take the third place in overall smartphone shipments in the region - behind the two incontestable leaders: Samsung (14.3 million units shipped), and Apple (6.2 million units). The waterproof Xperia Z (which has been a bestseller in Japan since day one) has probably helped Sony a lot.

LG followed Sony, with 2.4 million smartphones shipped.
