BAE Systems' NAVSOP does positioning without GPS, makes sure the only jammin' going on is yours

Just in case GPS and GLONASS didn't make for enough of an acronym soup, BAE Systems wants to add one more to the navigation broth. NAVSOP ( uses some of the basic concepts we know from cell tower triangulation and WiFi location-finding to lock down a position, but goes much further to geolocate from nearly anything that pushes out a signal, such as nearby radios and TVs. It doesn't even need to know what kind of signal it's looking at, and it can get its position in places there's no GPS to work from, whether it's in an urban canyon or the natural kind.

Android 4.1 Jelly Bean port arrives on Samsung Galaxy S3

Don't you think it makes sense for the latest, most powerful Android-powered smartphone from Samsung to feature the latest operating system version from Google. Many people think so, too, and after having an unofficial ROM ported over the Galaxy Nexus, here we are with an unofficial port of the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean port for the Samsung Galaxy S3. This applies for the international version of the Samsung Galaxy S3, although there are a fair number of features that do not work – such as Wi-Fi connectivity, Bluetooth and NFC support, the audio system, a camera tha fails to snap photos, and inability to detect the internal storage space.

Onkyo to deliver 11.4 DTS Neo:X surround sound on latest receivers

While still a far cry from 64 speakers, Onkyo and DTS teamed up to bring the first 11.4 channel surround sound to your home theater. At the top of the trio of new receivers is the TX-NR5010. It is the only one that's THX certified, but like the TX-NR3010, it can drive 9 speakers and has pre-outs for four subs as well as two more channels. $2999 is the price you'll pay for the best, with a $700 price break when you move one model down the line to the TX-NR3010. Last up, but still shipping in July with 11.4 support, is the TX-NR1010 with its seven channel amp at $1799.

Xbox Music is coming to Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8, that much we know. We also know that the Zune brand is dead. But whether the new service will be a simple rebadge or an entirely new beast remains a mystery. Bloomberg has it on good authority, however, that that Xbox Music will more than just a new face. Microsoft is allegedly combining all the most successful elements of its competitors - streaming, online storage, and offline syncing - into a product that will put iTunes, Spotify and Google Play squarely in its crosshairs.

Cadillac ATS-V, Coupe talks resurface, new convertible model in the works?

Don't be surprised. This isn't the first time we've heard talk of Cadillac looking to expand its ATS lineup beyond the new-for-2013 sedan. Earlier this year, we reported that the automaker may be looking to move its CTS Coupe and Sport Wagon models down to the ATS line, and before that, our intrepid spy photographers had caught what appears to be a high-power ATS-V out testing. TheDetroitBureau.com points out that the biggest challenge Cadillac faces in coming up with an ATS coupe is how to create something that doesn't just resemble a smaller version of the larger CTS two-door.

Carjacker who can't drive stick gets ride from victim

Note to budding carjackers: Learn to drive a stick shift before heading out to boost a car. Note to potential carjacking victims: If the thief can't drive a stick, run away and call the cops. Unfortunately our advice is a little too late for a couple of guys in St. Louis. According to the Associated Press, on Sunday, a motorist was approached in his vehicle by an armed man, who ordered him to move to the passenger seat and demanded his money. The victim handed over $24, at which point the would-be carjacker tried to drive off in the car.

. After ousting its CEO and closing a slew of stores, it's safe to say that Best Buy has had a difficult year. As the company's stock continues to tumble, its founder Richard Schulze is planning to try and take the company private, according to The Wall Street Journal. Schulze is the retailer's largest shareholder with roughly a 20% stake in the company, and he resigned from his post as chairman of the board earlier this month. The founder fears his holdings will continue to decline unless major changes are made at the company, although the Journal's sources claim he doesn't want to run the troubled retailer again.

Wimbledon releases Android app for this summer's Championships

Wimbledon releases Android app for this summer's Championships

I love Wimbledon. I'm not much of a tennis fan, but something about the Championships has always, always attracted me. The history of the event, the legendary duels that took place, the all-white dress code that still exists today. I usually tune in only for the finals, or for the semis once in a while, but I'm always keeping track of the score.
And, fortunately, this time around the organizers have made it even easier to do so with their app. Developed in association with IBM (who have for long been present at the tournament, compiling statistics in detail) has some cool stuff in it.

Tauro puts Spanish flavor, Corvette engine into Pontiac Solstice

While it may have had its fans, we have to say we don't much miss the roadster family which General Motors based on its Kappa platform. Sold alternately as the Pontiac Solstice, Saturn Sky, Opel GT and Daewoo G2X (depending largely on the market), the roadster as much about style as substance, and it was summarily discontinued in 2009 as GM's domestic brands faltered. But now a company in Spain has given the two-seat roadster a new lease on life. That company is called Tauro Sport Auto, and its version – called, simply enough, the V8 Spider – is a fairly comprehensive rework.

At this year's Uplinq conference, Qualcomm hit Android developers with some exciting news. In the coming months, the chip maker will deliver a Snapdragon software development kit (SDK) that will provide devs with access to the "next-generation technology and features" embedded in its processors. Through APIs, the kit will allow application architects to leverage facial processing, burst camera capture, surround sound recording, echo cancellation, sensor gestures, low power geofencing and indoor location capabilities. Initially, the SDK will only be available for the S4 8960 wafer, but Qualcomm hopes to include more models over time.

The new Pocket Planes iOS app allows players to try and manage a fleet of planes. It is a simulation game where players try to manage a fleet of planes as it carries cargoes or passengers going to their destinations. As the planes fly, players earn money that allows them to fly bigger planes, land in bigger airports and earn more money in the process. Over time, a player's fleet becomes a fleet of large jumbo jets that will make them appreciate their growth from a fleet of tiny prop planes.
