Amazon Kindle Paperwhite Firmware 5.3.3 released

Amazon today released a new firmware for their Kindle Paperwhite.  Firmware 5.3.3 can either be downloaded and manually installed or you can wait for it to come over the air if you have your Wi-fi enabled on your Paperwhite.  There's actually no change log on the web and it's a full OS update (rather than an upgrade or incremental) so be prepared to download around 164MB. It's coming down as I type and if there are any issues with it I'll report back.

The Mercedes-Benz CLA earned itself a spot on our list of the top five unveils of the 2013 Detroit Auto Show, and for good reason. The German luxury compact is the first small car from the Silver Arrow that looks suitably premium inside and out. Nowness.com has turned out a new video of the CLA featuring super model Karlie Koss in the lead role. We aren't entirely sure what the premise is, but from what we can tell, it looks as if the CLA comes to life and proceeds to be a giant jerk.

Could Chevrolet sell a reborn El Camino in the United States. Let's ask an expert, General Motors International Operations boss Tim Lee, what he thinks. Speaking to the Aussies at CarPoint.com.au, Lee had this to say: "I think here in the US that vehicle has a tremendous amount of cache so if we could [import it] we would if it makes sense.". Great! So, we'll be getting a pickup car within the year, right? Well, not so much.

. I like to be as minimalistic as possible when I workout, especially on my runs. To keep my mind off the pounding of the pavement, I like to have music with me when I run outside or when I watch movies and shows while on the elliptical machine or treadmill. Typically, that necessitates earbuds with their cord running from my ears to whatever device I happen to be using. The cord is always flopping around and in the way, distracting from the Zen of my run. I have long envisioned wireless earpieces that you wear in each ear like a pair of fitted hearing aids that provide great sound streamed from whatever Bluetooth device you have.

Maserati and Lamborghini pull out of Iran

Daimler is out, Toyota is out, Porsche is out, Hyundai, PSA Peugeot-Citroën are out and when it comes to selling cars in Iran, now Maserati and Lamborghini are out, too. The definitive pullouts of those last two automakers are said to be reactions to a press conference held by a group called United Against Nuclear Iran (UANI). The group highlights businesses that sell in both the US market and Iran, and works to get those businesses to choose one market or the other. UANI said it had sent letters to Maserati and Lamborghini about their dealings in Iran, but that the letters went unanswered.

Let's get fit with the Amiigo fitness bracelet

In keeping with my fascination with wearable fitness devices, I bring you the Amiigo fitness bracelet, which is a project currently in the funding stage on the indiegogo website. Unlike other wearable fitness wrist devices (the Nike FuelBand and Fitbit Flex), the Amiigo is a two piece fitness device; one piece  you wear on your wrist and the other on your shoe. The device sends data back via Bluetooth to your iOS or select Android device, where the proprietary software determines what type of activity you are actually doing.

Samsung Galaxy Pocket Plus On Its Way

Samsung must have had a revelation recently when they figured out a new way to name their slightly updated smartphones with the suffix "Plus", just like how Apple added an "S" to the back of their iPhone 3G, iPhone 4, and some even say, the iPhone 5 will also be getting a similar treatment. The Samsung Galaxy Pocket Plus would be the latest device to arrive with such a suffix, and it does seem to resemble the Galaxy Pocket as it was – a mirror image, basically. So the exterior might look the same, but what about stuff underneath the hood.
